Pikes Peak Retriever Club (PPRC) membership
is open to people interested in any AKC registered retriever breed,
hunting, training and participating in hunt tests and/or field
trials. Club membership includes trainers / handlers of all
experience levels and inexperienced newcomers are especially
welcome.
Club training days are held on the
second Saturday of each month from February through July. Training
days are open to the public for a small fee (normally $10-12) per dog,
which helps cover the cost of live birds (generally pigeons),
grounds, and equipment. Training sessions are set by knowledgeable
and accomplished club members or invited trainers.
Club meetings are held at 7:30pm on the third
Wednesday of the month. Meetings are held every other month starting
in January. A bi-monthly newsletter which includes a club activity
calendar, notice and location of the next club meeting and
appropriate articles concerning retriever training and handling, dog
health care and AKC activities is mailed to each member.
The club sponsors an AKC Licensed Hunt Test
in early June each year with Junior, Senior and Master levels of
participation. PPRC is a member of the Master National Retriever
Club. Several club members have retrievers which earned ribbons
and/or titles from Junior Hunter through Master Hunter.
The club also sponsors a mid-August AKC
Licensed Field Trial with Derby, Qualifying, Amateur and Open
stakes. Again, several of our members' retrievers have
accomplished success in this competition including Field and
Amateur Field Champions, several Qualified All-Age dogs and
National Derby List youngsters.
In addition, the club supports good breeding
and dog care practices by sponsoring a Health Clinic each
spring. The services include CERF eye examinations, vaccinations,
microchip implants and heartworm testing and are offered to
the general public and to members at reduced prices.
Annual club dues are $15.00 for an
individual (1 vote) membership or $25.00 for a family (2 vote)
membership. Membership applications received between July 1 and
October 1 shall include one-half annual dues payment. Membership
applications received after October 1 shall include a full year
dues payment, but will be considered as full payment for the
following year. Application shall be made on the Membership
Application Form.
